John Hiatt & The Goners -- Twofer
Another gem with a strong message from Hiatt. I once asked DeucE if he could either distract the drummer or kick his ass one or the other while I made off with his racing green drum kit (seen here) while attending a show at the House of Blues in New Orleans. Then we spotted two blondes but I digress because we went home empty handed on both counts. Back in the day, I once overheard some guy tell a friend that Sonny Landreth puts on a clinic every time he straps on a guitar, smart guy, this one's no exception...
As if you needed more proof, phenom lyrics especially if you have a daughter or two, Hiatt just had to love this particular band, you see it in his smile and no denyin' his "moves," Dave Ranson on bass, Kenneth Blevins on drums, and yes ladies and gentlemen, Landreth appears to be from another planet...

L'Angelus -- Love Don't Care
One for my friend, SC Ray, over South Carolina way. Man, that young Cajun fiddler can play. What's that DeucE, L'Man, and/or you have said on occasion - is it the kids will be alright?

Mark Knopfler & Sonny Landreth -- Repeat Performance
Seems it's always something as fire burned back home on the Bonnet Carre Spillway railroad track of all places for hours on end yesterday, one of the best performances I know of for the folks who matter with us, back home and faraway, may the road rise up to meet them...

John Hiatt -- You Must Go
The old saying about the simple things in life being the best rings true for me whenever I hear a Hiatt tune. I'm always reminded of riding with DeucE on Old Metairie Road (the oldest road to New Orleans) when he slipped in a John Hiatt cassette, one of his favorites. It was back in the day when I thought I knew everything about everything, including music. I was blown away just like a kid in a candy store for the first time. Interestingly enough, his backing band at the time was made up of three amazing musicians from Louisiana of all places. I've always maintained that I need to get out more and here was proof positive.
Fast forward some 15 years and my young daughter (already the greatest of Beatles fans) comes into the living room one evening and says "Dad, I really like this song, what do you think?" She then proceeds to play Hiatt's Have A Little Faith In Me. Poor thing did not realize at the time that Hiatt to me was like the Beatles to her. That bit of Cajun in my blood came out and I talked her head off that night. Another fond memory...
I've been restless as of late for a number of reasons so here's one of my favorites with a message on the subject like only Hiatt can tell. Thanks John, thanks DeucE and thanks Alexis, for we all must go every now and again...
