The Sky Is Crying -- Gary BB Coleman
Had to circle back after my last post with a blues classic. Mr. Coleman was the real deal out of Paris, Texas. From his debut album in 1986 to his untimely death in 1994, he covered a fair amount of blues territory. Didn't want certain folks to think I was losing my touch...
Jump -- Van Halen
So this one hit, and at Number 1 for five weeks, back in 1984, some 34 years ago on this Day. Man, where does the time go? Must confess that I saw VH in Baton Rouge in '86 with my younger brother. As a guitarist, he mainly wanted to see Eddie on guitar and being a drummer, I looked forward to checking in on Alex. Lo and behold, much to our surprise and chagrin, that goofy David Lee Roth, who penned this tune right after seeing a tv news report of a man threatening to jump off a building, stole the show and then some...

Steve Winwood -- Holding On
Got back to the studio yesterday with Evan and Company to work on a couple of oldies after having been away for a few months lost in 2017, not as easy as it used to be that's for sure but it's also good in that much of the stress to be perfect, as if, is gone, as well it should be. A life lesson perhaps - Still holding on though...

Marcia Ball -- Louisiana's Hot Tamale Baby
Shout out to Big Ray who I believe DeucE said is back in South Carolina, if true then I can get back to calling him SC Ray just 'cause it's one cool nickname in Jb & Skip's book, dig? So Ray, grab one of those lovely ladies in your household and get to dancing with Ms. Ball on vocals and piano, David Murray on guitar, Don Bennett on bass and the late, great Doyle Bramhall on drums, circa 1985 or should I say from back in the day...

It's Raining -- Lou Ann Barton
Wonder if DeucE remembers this Allen Toussaint gem from his NOLA days, given his propensity for the finer things in life, bet he'd remember those legs too if he ever got to see Ms. Lou Ann perform back in the day...

Steve Winwood -- Back In The High Life
This one's for the L'Man, slow to warm up this morning my friend so I put on my "new" Winwood vinyl (picked up "Back In The High Life" and "Roll With It" for a quarter apiece the other day), got me working on some old dance moves and what a sight, just ask Skip, Bella and Alexis. Perhaps the simple life is the high life...

Boz Scaggs -- From "My Time"
Tune called "We're Gonna Roll" from his 1972 release, while much of this wonderful album was recorded in Muscle Shoals, this track was recorded in San Francisco, the horns are spot on and George Rains on drums simply nails it. Picked it up on vinyl yesterday with not a single scratch for all of $0.25. For it's the simple things in life that seem to really hit home these days...

Today's news sure is... Before Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jerry Lee, and Elvis among others, there was Antoine "Fats" Domino, Jr. The rest is history... RIP Fat Man.
