Jesse Ed Davis -- The Man Who Inspired Duane Allman
The L'Man posted a Taj Mahal tune a few weeks back and Jb made a mental note to post one for Jesse Ed Davis. Gone far too young, he played slide guitar on Taj's early albums, the very same that inspired Duane Allman to find a small glass jar to fit his finger and let loose. In addition to playing some of the best blues rock slide early on, Jesse absolutely nailed it on Jackson Browne's Doctor My Eyes...

Swampers on I'll Take You There, Staple Singers
Music Legend has it that Paul Simon called Al Bell of Stax Records to request the same black musicians that played on this tune to play on his next record. Bell responded that he could arrange for the same session musicians but that these guys were mighty pale. The Swampers of Muscle Shoals absolutely nailed this one among others and it is perhaps bass player David Hood's finest performance...
Memphis Horns on Respect, Otis Redding
1965, horns and drums all day long on this one, when I come home...

A little Sunday morning gospel (live for the visual, studio for the audio), can I get an Amen?
Saturday, August 23, 2014
Anders Osborne & Company -- Sugaree
Another one for SC Ray's consideration, this one for jam purposes, the lead guitar work on this one is by New Orleans' own Anders Osborne, I've always loved his "deceptive" sound and enjoy the reaction of friends hearing him for the first time, he kicks it hard live, just ask DeucE. George Porter, Jr., of Meters fame on the bass no less. Hope you dig it...
Crosby, Stills & Nash -- Wooden Ships
One for DeucE, might he dig this one given his Cali roots, harmonies and all, he just might...

Stevie Ray Vaughan -- Come On
SC Ray knows Stevie Ray but what we have here in this performance is SRV nailing a tune by one of his favorite "blues man" - New Orleans' own Earl King. Like only SRV could. Got to see the two of them jam together years ago at the NOLA Jazz & Heritage Festival, it was an Americana blues history lesson, as good as it gets...

Me And My Guitar -- Tab Benoit
SC Ray is working on his sound, this one is just in case he wants some Louisiana hot sauce to go with his Robert Cray. BTW, Tab plays vintage Telecasters from the early, early days. I remember waiting for this young Cajun gunslinger to stop in at the Rock n' Bowl in New Orleans when he was all of 20, 21 years of age back in the early to mid 1990s. It was open blues on Thursday nights and I'd try to get there early enough to grab a seat on the indoor stoop to the side of the stage, brings back some good memories. And, oh man, no doubt I am going to enjoy this particular exchange of favorite guitarists even if i am just a drummer...

New Orleans Suspects -- Kickin' It
Got to meet and hang with Reggie Scanlan and Mean Willie Green while the Suspects were in town recently for a gig at the Bradfordville Blues Club. Reggie was kind enough to take time and talk bass with Evan. This band is definitely worth seeing if you get the chance. I was blown away by their stamina as they played one lengthy jam after another. Hope someone posts their killer version of the Wild Magnolias' Smoke My Peace Pipe before long. Until then, this one will do...
